On 25 September 2024, an environmental education campaign was conducted at SYL Primary and Secondary School, located in Zone K of the Hodan district. This event was part of the “Empowering Students for Climate Action & Sustainability” project, aimed at raising awareness among young students about the importance of protecting our planet. Over 300 students participated enthusiastically in the school assembly, which served as the main platform for the campaign activities.
During the assembly, we introduced fundamental concepts of environmental science, focusing on the structure of ecosystems and the interconnectedness of living and non-living components. Students learned how human activities, such as deforestation and pollution, disrupt these delicate systems. Special attention was given to the issue of plastic pollution, emphasizing its widespread impact on oceans, wildlife, and human health. The session encouraged students to think critically about their own actions and how they can contribute to environmental conservation. Simple, actionable steps such as reducing plastic use, planting trees, and promoting recycling were highlighted as ways they could make a difference within their communities.
Overall, the campaign was a success, inspiring students to take an active role in protecting their environment. By fostering awareness and responsibility at an early age, the project aims to build a generation committed to sustainability and climate action. SYL Primary and Secondary School has taken an important step toward nurturing environmentally conscious citizens for the future.
