Our Story

Somali women are particularly vulnerable to climate change due to their reliance on natural resources and the social, economic, and political barriers they face. Despite these challenges, they possess valuable knowledge and expertise that can be leveraged for climate change mitigation, disaster reduction, and adaptation. Recognizing this potential, Action for Environment established the Somali Women in Environment and Climate Change (SWECC) program to empower women, emphasize their critical role, and develop scalable solutions for climate action. The SWECC program aims to engage Somali women of various ages, backgrounds, and skills in environmental and climate initiatives, fostering their leadership and raising awareness about the intersection of gender and climate.
