Week 94, Somali women in Environment and climate change (SWECC) actively participated in a beach cleanup, showcasing their commitment to environmental conservation and climate change initiatives. This event highlighted the crucial role women play in protecting our natural resources, especially in coastal communities.

After the cleanup, we engaged the community in discussions about the importance of maintaining clean beaches. Using posters with messages like “Dumar iyo Deegan” (Women and Environment) and “No Plastic Pollution,” we conveyed our message in both Somali and English, ensuring everyone could understand the significance of our efforts.

Our outreach emphasized that ocean conservation is a collective responsibility. The participation of SWECC not only raised awareness but also encouraged community members to act against plastic pollution and other environmental challenges. The event reinforced the idea that caring for our environment requires ongoing dedication. As we left the beach, we carried with us a sense of accomplishment and a renewed commitment to protecting our planet.

By empowering women as frontline advocates, we aim to inspire future generations to prioritize environmental stewardship. Together, we can create a sustainable future for our oceans and communities
