Our team was honored to participate in World Environment Day 2024, celebrated annually on June 5th. This vital platform addresses pressing environmental issues, with this year’s theme being “Land Restoration: Combating Desertification and Drought Resilience.” It highlights the urgent need to restore degraded lands and combat the impacts of climate change. “The Earth does not belong to us; we belong to the Earth.” — Marlee Matlin

Around 200 participants from civil society organizations, activists, and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, which led the campaign, came together for a beach cleanup at Urubo beach. The campaign successfully collected over 300 kilograms of waste, including plastics and glass, demonstrating the pressing need for collective action against pollution.

The day serves as a reminder of our individual and collective responsibilities toward the environment. By participating in events like the beach cleanup, we show our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The theme of land restoration is particularly relevant as desertification and drought threaten food security and biodiversity. Restoring our ecosystems can improve resilience against natural disasters and enhance carbon sequestration.

World Environment Day encourages us to reflect on our consumption habits and the waste we generate. By raising awareness about issues like plastic pollution, we can inspire sustainable practices in our communities.Ultimately, World Environment Day is a call for action. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for our planet, one small action at a time.
